On top of the water, we find a much broader spectrum of activities to pursue—swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Swimming

What is summer without a little dip? The oceans around Powell River can be surprisingly warm (speaking relatively of course) because of the variety of currents hereabouts. The

waters off Savary Island, for example, can run in the high 20s of degrees celsius. The most famous beach in town is Willingdon Beach, on the north side of Westview, and is a favourite spot for young and old alike in the heat of the summer. You can even go for a swim at Oceanside. If salt water is not your thing, you'll find that the daisy-chain of lakes set back from the ocean provides a veritable heaven of fresh water swimming to he who is willing to seek them out. Many of the best swimming areas, like Haywire Bay and Inland lake don't require a lot of seeking. In fact, they're
