plethora of trout can be had with the right bait and flies, and the wilderness surrounding
these fishing areas is sublime. And there are a ton of fish in the ocean besides the
much-talked-about coho, including lingcod, rockfish, halibut, and other salmon like

Canoeing
The lakes around Powell River are ideal for
canoeing and the ocean for kayaking. Calm varied waters and breathtaking scenery combine
to make boating trips of this nature much sought after. So great was demand for canoeing
routes and marked portages, that the British Columbia Forest Service created the
Powell Forest Canoe Route, 80 kms. of canoeing
and 11 kms. of portage in the wilderness of Powell River. The government publication (left

in error when he put the tag of Desolation on this area, for the sea and land
